Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

The following SRE classes are offered at Googong Public School:

Catholic Education:

Lessons include activities that are fun and inclusive of students, whilst also providing the opportunity to critically explore in depth their faith and to pray and reflect.

Combined Christian Education:

With SRE teachers from local churches, students ask questions, explore the bible and discover the Good News of Jesus Christ and what it means to be a christian in our world today. Lessons are age appropriate, fun and inclusive.

Special Education in Ethics:

Students practice and improve skills in critical thinking and ethical reasoning to develop a life-long capacity to make well reasoned decisions, discussing age appropriate ethical issues with peers.

Alternative Meaningful Activities:

Students not attending special religious education or special education in ethics will participate in alternative meaningful activities. This could include reading, private study or completing homework.
